Pour One Out for The Annex

The Annex RIP

Everybody, take a knee.  After more than 30 years of making discount footwear dreams come true, The Annex is dead and gone.

Over the course of the summer, my father – Sneaker King, Larry Mirigliani – documented the demolition.  Brick-by-brick, Nike-by-Nike, it all came crumbling down.  If we’re all lucky, maybe the new owners will plant some sneaker plants along the empty lot.

Let’s look at these photos, remember the good times and have a good cry together.  But in the words of Dorothy Giuli, “I don’t like it, but I guess we have to get used to it”

Nike: Nobody Does It Better

Who actually cares whether they make cool shoes or not, Nike has the best commercials going.  For decades running.

Most recent case-in-point:  their new ads for a product called NikeFuel.  At first glance, it’s a glorified pedometer.  (I haven’t taken the second glance yet)

truth bomb – it will most likely be more popular with overweight people who’ll think it’s an cool way to lose weight rather than with the incredible athletes that make the bracelet look good.

2Best (and 1Worst) 2Day

We begin with the best…

#1 – The new Nike Lebron 8.

These be some dope kicks.  There’s an accompanying commercial after the jump.  Not Nike’s best by a longshot, but it got me on board with the shoes so can’t knock it too hard.

And while we’re on the subject, when does the “Just Do It” slogan finally receive it’s Lifetime Achievement Award?
